Department of Construction Management
The Department of Construction Management (formally known as Department of Investment and Real Estate from 1999 to 2003) was established as a new department with two majors of Real Estate Management and Investment & Construction Cost in 2003. The Department jointly offers two master programs of Technical Economic & Management and Urban Management, and co-supports a PhD program of Government Regulation in Urban Public Utilities. There are a Professional Laboratory of Construction Management, a BIM Center, and more than twenty external educational practice bases to provide strong support for research and teaching activities.
Currently, the Department has fourteen full-time academic staffs, thirty adjunct academic staffs, and three non-academic staffs, dedicated to the education of about 220 undergraduate students and over 10 postgraduate students. Through the study in the Department, students will be prepared for professionalism, innovation, and leadership in the industries of construction and real estate in Chinaand beyond. The students obtained more than 20 research projects at various levels and won 15 awards in various research or innovation competitions at the provincial and national level in last three years. The Students’ Construction Management Association periodically organizes various events to stimulate the learning passion and comprehensive skills, including BIM Competition and Real Estate Planning Competition. Career competence for our students are very strong; approximately, the undergraduate employment rate is above 97% in last five years, including one-fifth of our undergraduates pursuing graduate education.
Among the full-time academic staffs, there are 8 Professors (including Asso. Prof.); 79% possessing PhD degree, 50% having overseas study or research experiences. The Department conducts cutting-edge research in vital areas that address societal needs for sustainable built environment and urban development. In the last three years, the Department undertook more than 40 research projects, including 6 national projects, 16 provincial projects, and other consultancy projects; the overall funding grant is over 13 million RMB. Meanwhile, the Department published over 60 SCI/SSCI indexed high-quality research journal papers, 5 books, and 6 patents in last three years.
Under the umbrella of China’s fast urbanization and “The Belt and Road” strategy, the Department of Construction Management is dedicated in developing a platform of intellectual vitality and diversity, where staffs are empowered to conduct innovative research towards social challenges and to integrate research findings in teaching, where students are equipped with civicpersonality, forefront knowledge, and creative and adaptable skills. Also, all members in the Department are motivated to develop a sense of shared values towards an inclusive community. We are proud of our contributions to the public mission of Zhejiang University of Finance & Economics, to the social and economic development of Zhejiang Province, further on to the sustainable development of built environment in Chinaand beyond.
